IU-Taiwan Collaborations in Music Project

The IU-Taiwan Collaborations in Music project, housed under the Taiwan Studies Initiative and East Asian Studies Center (EASC), fosters cultural and academic exchanges between Indiana University and Taiwan. Organized and produced by Hsuan Chang Kitano, this project unites student composers, musicians, and scholars to explore Taiwan’s rich cultural and musical traditions. Through workshops, lectures, and collaborative performances, participants create innovative works inspired by Taiwanese cultural insights. 

Key features of the project include:

  • Workshops and Lectures: Featuring guest speakers from EASC to provide cultural insights and inspiration.
  • Student Compositions: Allowing student composers to incorporate approved guest materials, such as voices, cultural content, or lecture recordings, into their creative works.
  • Music Album Release: A planned release of a collaborative music album within three years, showcasing the outcomes of the partnership.

The collaboration aims to emphasizes the ethical use of shared resources, with clearly defined copyright agreements to ensure the responsible management of intellectual property for both profit and non-profit purposes. This initiative bridges academic scholarship and musical creativity, promoting cultural understanding and artistic excellence.
