The Hamilton Lugar School Living-Learning Center (HLS LLC), with the support of the East Asian Studies Center, the Korean Student Association, and Chinese Students and Scholars Association, offered IU students a taste of East Asian food and culture at their 2022 Lunar New Year Celebration on February 4. The students tried Korean snacks, baked Nian Gao (New Year Sweet Rice Cake), and dined on traditional Korean foods such as haemul pajeon (seafood and green onion pancake), jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork), and tubu japchae (stir-fried potato starch noodles with tofu) from Mura Sushi and Korean Restaurant. Surrounded by New Year’s decorations and with the Chinese New Year Gala on TV, students played traditional games such as yutnori and xiangqi (Chinese chess), tried on traditional clothing at the photo booth, and learned about the Korean tradition of Charye Sang (ancestor worship table). Thank you to everyone involved for bringing Lunar New Year traditions to the HLS LLC!
